New Homestead Exemption Law...

NEW HOMESTEAD EXEMPTION RULES

Effective September 1, 2011, individuals applying for a residential homestead
exemption in Texas will need to comply with a new application process. All
applicants must provide the following to the Central Appraisal District when
submitting an application:
* Texas Drivers License or State ID Card—address MUST match the physical
address of the residence for which you are applying
* Vehicle Registration Receipt —address MUST match the physical address

of the residence for which you are applying
* If you don’t own a vehicle, you will be required to submit a notarized affidavit
certifying that  fact and provide a copy of a currenty utility bill.

Again the addresses on all documents MUST be the same.

The new rules affect you only if your circumstances have changed:
if you’re purchasing a new home, or if you’ve become eligible for a different
type of homestead exemption, such as turning 65 or becoming disabled.

IF you have an existing homestead exemption and you have not moved, you do
not need to do anything; your exemption will automatically renew.
